#3: Song for Ten (Murray Gold Cover) - Halia Meguid

*note: If you haven’t listened to this cover and you’re a Whovian, you NEED to. It’s such a beautiful rendition — I feel that its tone perfectly captures the love story of TenxRose*

Well I woke up today and you’re on the other side
Our time will never come again
But if you can still dream
Close your eyes it will seem
That you can see me now and then

“I had a date.” Steve still thinks about Peggy, thinks about what could have been. She was the first person to fall in love with him — with Steve, not Captain America. Dr. Erskine might have been the one to make him physically strong, but it was Peggy who made him stronger on the inside. But now, there’s a heavy feel to his heart every time he dwells on the fact he’ll never see her again. They’ll never have that date.

‘Cause I followed my star
And that’s what you are
I’ve had a merry time with you

Looking past the heartache, Steve can remember the brilliant times they shared. However fleeting those moments were, he’ll cherish them forever. She’ll always have a special place in his heart.

So have a good life
Do it for me
Make me so proud
Like you want me to be
Where ever you are
I’m thinking of you oceans apart

Steve knows that Peggy wouldn’t want him to be miserable in this brand new world. He knows that she’d want him to be happy, because if you love someone, you want them to find happiness. He just never expected to find that happiness in Howard Stark’s son. During the times when he’s with Tony and he thinks of Peggy, he wishes she was there to crack a fondue joke. He’ll always miss her, and he’ll always love her. But he honors her memory by trying to live the best life possible.

#2: “Displaced” - Azure Ray

Steve feels like he doesn’t belong in the world anymore. Everything’s new, everything’s different. And above all else, everyone he once loved is gone.

I know that nothing
Nothing survives, nothing survives
I think I’m turned around
I’m looking up, not looking down

Tony also feels like he doesn’t belong. He’s different. Most of the time, he uses that as a strength. “Iron Man.” Super cool, super smart, super rich. But sometimes he feels like an extra piece of a puzzle. Sure, he’s a novelty, but does he really fit? He desperately throws himself into constantly saving the world, hoping that this can give him a purpose, give him a place to belong.

Am I making something worthwhile out of this place?
Am I making something worthwhile out of this chase?
I am displaced
I am displaced

And despite all of this, Steve and Tony find each other. They find a place where they both belong. A place where they’re both meant to be.

And when I’m standing still
Watching you run
Watching you fall
Fall into me
suuperhusband’s Stony Fanmix Series #1: “This Love (Will Be Your Downfall)” - Ellie Goulding
The tragic thing about Tony is that he doesn’t believe he’s good enough - and he definitely doesn’t believe he’s good enough for a wonderful person like Steve. He’s still in the stage of denial, trying as hard as he can to deny these growing feelings inside of him. He’s confused, he’s scared, and he doesn’t know what to do so he tries to repress everything.

Who are we to be emotional?Who are we to play with hearts and throw away it all?

Oh, who am I to say I’m always yours?Who am I to choose the boy that everyone adores?Oh, I don’t see a reason why we can’t just be apart
Tony tries to rationalize his actions. Really, who is he to try and do anything with the innocent and wholesome Steve? Should he really be dragging the poor guy into all of this? Surely, it’s better if he just leaves it all alone.

This love is not what you wantThis heart will never be yours

This is what Tony keeps on trying to repeat to himself. He’s convinced himself that if he says it enough times, he’ll actually start believing himself. During the long, lonely hours spent in his lab, he might be willing to admit that he actually does love Steve, but he isn’t able to believe that his love is actually something that Steve would even want. Tony Stark: the opposite of relationship material. Who would want that?
